Just submitted my proposal to KickStarter.com

This book started out as a poem I wrote in high school, about a childhood experience.

About 5 years ago I illustrated the verses.

Now it is time to go ebook and get some Print On Demand hardcopies made.

Kickstarter is the perfect fit for getting that done.

(I heard about this approach to getting your project kick started from Dennis McKenna on Red Ice Radio (www.redicecreations.com):

Maker Gramps

Gramps made the frame (guess that's partly where my skills come from). He was in the Air force during the war. I found an old Indian motorcycle wrench of his. It finishes the piece -- the pic frame had no stand of its own.

locus dc wm

Locus map showing the Washington Monument area in D.C.
(The bluish color is the monument area.)
For this map I used census block data (I could not find free parcel data covering this area).
Parcel data would have been optimal, considering the union symbolism that is visible from Google Maps, at this location.
(The monument is smack in the middle of the union, forming a phallus, see below. I did not know about the parcel form until I made this map.)

Locus Map - HJ

This map is displaying parcels (the blue parcel is actually the first residence I had with my wife).
The yellow to orange colors (and blue rectangle) are the parcels.
The blue/red/white areas are the roads.

The top left is me as a kid (in my Grandpa's truck).
The bottom right is me about 18 years later.
The kids are in my bro-in-law's truck another 18 or so years later.

Need Wine Corks

I am building a wine cork end table (similar to my palm trunk end table, see link below).
I have the first two layers built.

(The bubbly stuff is dry Gorilla glue (love it)).

Prototype: Bamboo Butterfly Birdhouse (License Plate Roof)

Crafted circa 2010.
Inspired by my mother-in-law's ultra-hip mid-century-modern William Krisel butterfly dwelling in P.S.

Coral Coil Sledge

The coral is from Spain.
The sledge is from the Plain.
The rod was coiled painstakingly.

(We lived in Cadiz for 3 years.
The sledge was wielded by my Grandpa.
The fusion of the two was by Hugh.)

Seeder Cross

Either, my grandfather or great grandfather made this tool (or what was a tool).
It was used for planting seeds. It had two handles (which I removed).
I wish I would have taken a picture of what the tool looked like originally (before I transformed it). The metal box dispensed the seeds as the handles were pulled apart.
I almost sent the tool to Goodwill. Good will I didn't! Last minute folk art thinkin' and tinkerin', turned the seeder into this cool func art.

Jhn 12:24-25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn a wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Jhn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Yes, you can paint your couch, I did!

We've had this couch for over 10 years, and it was time for a re-invention.
First, I stapled the skirt up.
Next, I ordered stainless peg feet.
Finally, I convinced my wife, that regular (egg shell finish) wall paint would give us new lease via a vibrant color (the original color was between forest / pea soup green).
It worked!
(That is, after 3-4 coats of paint, of course. Roller application of the paint worked best.)
And mom made us new pillow covers from old curtains.

Yes, you can paint your couch, I did!
