‘Quilts: Two Centuries of American Tradition and Technique’
The Bowers Museum is presenting an exhibition of American quilts from the 18th century to the 20th century, many on view for the first time. The show highlights an array of quilting styles and techniques, embodying the powerful visual impact and historical traditions of various eras. The exhibit, culled from the Bowers’ permanent collection, is guest curated by Julia D. Zgliniec, a quiltmaker, instructor and appraiser certified by the American Quilter’s Society. Quilts on display include a whole cloth or Linsey-Woolsey quilt dating to 1776, and an 1850 crazy quilt made from paper templates of old receipts, bills, letters and other documents. Through Jan. 16.
